Farmfest to feature forums on ag policy issues, new Farm Bill

GILFILLAN ESTATE — Farmfest 2023 features forums on the new Farm Bill, ag policy issues and demonstrations Tuesday through Thursday, Aug. 1-3.

U.S. Trade Representative office agriculture negotiator Doug McKalip will provide the latest details on current and potential trade agreements and challenges beginning at 9:30 a.m. Aug. 1.

A forum on the 2023 Farm Bill and other U.S. Department of Agriculture policy issues and programs follows with national and state farm organization leaders at 10:30 a.m. Aug. 1.

Background information on new “climate-smart” initiatives and carbon sequestration efforts being implemented will be presented by farmers and experts with experience in the practices at 1:15 p.m.

The Minnesota Farm Bureau pancake breakfast is set for 8-10 a.m. Wednesday in the forum tent.

A panel of Congressional members Brad Finstad, Angie Craig, Emmer, Michelle Fischbach, Pete Stauber and other U.S. House Ag Committee members will hear from farmers and farm organizations about farm bill priorities and concerns.

Gov. Tim Walz is delivering opening comments at 1:10 p.m. Wednesday for a forum on agriculture and rural policy issues. Panelists include Minnesota Agriculture Commissioner Thom Peterson, DNR Commissioner Sarah Strommen, MnDOT Commissioner Nancy Daubenburger, MPCA Deputy Commissioner Peter Tester and state house and senate ag committee members.

ABC Drone will fly AG-130 and AG-116 models with seeder spreader options daily.

Can-Am hosts ATV ride and drive events in their demo space near Gate 3.

Ziegler Ag Equipment hosts ride and drive events including tractors, combines, sprayers in the northeast corner of the show grounds.

Tractor rollover and grain bin safety demonstrations by UMASH (Upper Midwest Agricultural Safety and Health Center) will be held.

Tickets are $10 at the gate, $8 in advance online. Kids 17 and under are free. Hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily.
