GILFILLAN ESTATE — A rural Canby woman received the Farmfest 2021 Woman Farmer of the Year Award Thursday.

“I’m humbled and honored to be part of this moment,” said Jane Goplen. “Congratulations to others on this stage today and to all women in farming gathered here today. Each of you play a vital part in your farming operation and we celebrate you.”

Goplen said sometimes, she feels like she’s living in Rory Feek’s TV show “My Extraordinary, Ordinary Life.”

“The day to day happenings and responsibilities of farming, the highs and lows, the ups and downs, can seem ordinary and not so glamorous,” Goplen said. “But at the end of the day, or end of a growing season, the accomplishments are quite extraordinary…I’m proud to represent one of the greatest sectors of people, the American farmer.

“Stand tall. Stand confident. Appreciate each other, keep the humor, enjoy the beauty of growing things, including flowers,” said Goplen. “Praise the Lord and pass it on.”

She is involved in church activities, teaching Sunday school, bible study, and arranging church events.

Other Farmfest Woman of the Year finalists were Erica Sawatzke of Oakdale Farms, Farwell; Jessica Blair, Starbuck; Wanda Patsche, Welcome; and Pam Weiers, Henderson.
