Swedzinski ahead in Lyon Co. in House District 16A race
MARSHALL — As votes continued to be counted across District 16A, State House of Representatives incumbent Chris Swedzinski was ahead of DFL challenger Doria Drost with 67.78% of the vote with 35 of 86 precinct results reported. Swedzinski won in the 15 Lyon County precincts reporting in.
While results were not yet complete on Tuesday night, Swedzinski thanked voters in Lyon County and across the district for their support.
“We’re thankful to the voters of House District 16A for really trusting me by bringing their voice to St. Paul and asking me to go back and do it again,” said Swedzinski.
Swedzinski said he looks forward to bringing the voice of rural Minnesota back to St. Paul if he holds on to win.
“We’ve worked hard at developing relationships across the district and having thousands of conversations about the issues that are important to rural Minnesota, and how we bring that voice to St. Paul. It was pretty clear that they want me back,” said Swedzinski.
Balancing the budget remains a focus for Swedzinski if the results stand.
“Balancing the budget with the $5 billion dollar shortfall, it’s not really a job that you look forward to, but it’s a top job to better craft Minnesota government to better fit our economy in this time of COVID,” he said.
In the District 22A State House race, Republican incumbent Joe Schomacker won his re-election bid over Chris Baumberger by garnering 72% of the vote with 108 of 110 precincts reported. With two precincts still to be tallied, Schomacker received 14,844 votes to Baumberger’s 5,552, or 27.20%.
