SMSU graduation ceremony postponed; showing video
MARSHALL — The yearly tradition of graduation is a momentous occasion for students all around the world. From putting on the ceremonial gown to the decoration of the cap or receiving the diploma, it was supposed to a weekend of celebration and accomplishment for students at Southwest Minnesota State University.
Unfortunately, they’ll have to wait a little while longer. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, SMSU recently announced the postponement of the spring graduation ceremony.
According to the University, there will be an official commencement ceremony for the Class of 2020 next fall, with a date still to be determined.
There will be no virtual ceremony either this weekend.
Instead, SMSU President Kumara Jayasuriya will be showing a video featuring multiple students.
