Second crash involving a deer, motorcycle reported

MILROY — A motorcyclist was injured in a collision with a deer on Monday morning on Minnesota Highway 19 in Redwood County, the Minnesota State Patrol said.

It’s the second deer/motorcycle crash reported in the area in the past week.

Lonnie Mercie, 58, of Vesta, was taken to Avera Marshall Medical Center after hitting a deer on his motorcycle in Westline Township, the State Patrol said. The collision was reported at 6:12 a.m. Mercie had been traveling westbound on Minnesota Highway 19 when he hit the deer.

He received non life-threatening injuries, the State Patrol said. Mercie was wearing a helmet.

The Milroy Fire Department and First Responders, and North Memorial Ambulance, all responded at the scene of the crash.

A crash with a deer also injured a motorcyclist from Franklin early Thursday morning. Paul Woods, 61, hit a deer as he was riding on Highway 19 in Vesta Township, and the collision caused Woods to lay the bike down, the State Patrol said.
