Granite Falls Police investigating Dec. 23 gunshots

GRANITE FALLS — Law enforcement is asking the public for help in the investigation of gunshots fired into a Granite Falls home a week ago. Granite Falls Police Chief Brian Struffert said police are asking anyone with information on the shooting, which happened in the early morning hours of Dec. 23, to contact the Granite Falls Police Department or Crime Stoppers.

Police received a report of what sounded like gunshots near the 800 block of Ninth Avenue in Granite Falls just before 4 a.m., Struffert said in a news release. At the time, the responding officer did not see evidence of gunshots in the area. However, later that day police received another report of a house being shot up during the night, from a resident at 835 Ninth Avenue. Police found evidence of three bullets entering the house, all on the main level, Struffert said.

One bullet went through a front window, one went through a wall, and a third went through the front door, police said. The homeowner told police both she and her 7-year-old sister were at home at the time of the shooting, Struffert said. The homeowner was sleeping in an upstairs bedroom, while her sister was sleeping on the living room couch downstairs.

The investigation of the shooting is ongoing, Struffert said Wednesday. So far, there have been no arrests in the case, he said. Now, police are asking for the public’s assistance. Anyone who may have seen or heard something suspicious the morning of Dec. 23, or who may have seen someone talking about the incident on social media, is encouraged to contact the Granite Falls Police. Residents or businesses in the area who may have surveillance cameras are also being asked to review their camera footage to see if there was any suspicious activity captured the morning of the shooting.

Struffert said people with information on the shooting can call Granite Falls Police at 320-564-2129. Information can also be reported to Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477, or by email at info@crimestoppersmn.org. Tips can be given anonymously.
