Businesses affected by Monday’s fire looking at options

MARSHALL — Monday’s fire at 348 W. Main St. adversely affected a number of businesses in the building — mostly the Perfect Styles salon, where the fire started.

On Tuesday, Brenda Olsen, co-owner along with Lisa Myhrberg, was taking out a couple boxes full of what little she could salvage from the salon — mainly paperwork such as appointment books. She said the retail items such as shampoo, conditioner and hair spray were unsellable. The salon will have to be gutted, she said. They are looking at options of where to set up shop in the meantime.

The acrid smell of smoke permeated the lower floor of the Main Street business building where no business was being transacted.

Burch Travel has temporarily re-located down the block to 238 W. Main St. and is “fully operational,” according to Mozelle Lahr, who is with the St. Cloud office of Burch Travel. A sign has been posted on the front door informing people of the change in location, Lahr said.

Breanna Thompson, owner of Marshall Academy of Dance, which is located on the top floor of the building, said the dance studio was shut down this week anyway because of MEA break.

“We’re lucky we didn’t have any fire damage,” she said. “We received the least damage of anyone in the building. We just have to get it cleaned, get the smell out.”

She said with the windows all open, you can hardly smell the smoke.

Next week the studio will operate in separate quarters while the dance studio is getting professionally cleaned.
