MN reports 569 new cases, 3 deaths from virus

MINNEAPOLIS — Minnesota reported 569 new cases of the coronavirus on Tuesday, along with three deaths.

The cases were identified from 5,936 tests, a positive rate of almost 10 percent.

Lyon County added 11 more cases to its total which stands at 327 now. Murray County has 64, Yellow Medicine County 30 and Lincoln County 10.

The Department of Health said of the deaths came in people in their 50s, with the third a person in their 70s. Minnesota has had 1,477 deaths from COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus, but the daily number of deaths has been mostly in single digits since late June.

The number of people hospitalized as of Tuesday stood at 267, with 121 people in intensive care.

Minnesota Public Radio News reported that the new numbers come as Rochester and Mankato are about to join Minneapolis, St. Paul and Edina in mandating masks in public spaces. Gov. Tim Walz is weighing a possible mask mandate statewide. Some major retailers nationwide have asked governors to mandate masks to reduce confusion over what’s required.
