Mustangs open spring trip with big win against Concordia (Neb.)
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Southwest Minnesota State women’s tennis opened its spring trip on Thursday with an 8-1 victory over Concordia University (Neb.) at the Burghart Tennis Courts on the campus of Colorado College.
SMSU is now 8-8 overall, while Concordia drops to 5-3 on the season.
The Mustangs captured all three doubles points as the No. 1 team of Paige Janka and Fatima Murphy won 8-6, the No. 2 team of Cora Delich and Hannah Starke won 8-4, while the No. 3 squad of Daniela Flores and Olivia Watzke earned an 8-5 victory.
In singles play, Murphy won in straight sets at No. 2 by scores of 6-1, 6-2, while also sweeping in singles play was Flores (6-3, 6-0) at No. 4, Starke (6-1, 6-1) at No. 5 and Hanna Himmelman at No. 6 (6-2, 6-0). At No. 3 singles, Watzke earned a hard-fought 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 (10-6) victory
SMSU continues non-conference action on Friday with a 4 p.m. CST match versus Colorado College.
