SMSU VOLLEYBALL: SMSU breaks into Top 10 in latest AVCA Top 25 poll

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Southwest Minnesota State women’s volleyball team advanced to the No. 9 spot in the latest American Volleyball Coaches’ Association (AVCA) Top-25 poll that was released on Monday. This is the 170th consecutive poll, dating back to Sept. 5, 2006, in which the Mustangs have been featured in the Top-25 poll. The Mustangs were previously ranked No. 12 in last week’s poll.

SMSU (19-7, 14-4 NSIC) went undefeated last week after defeating the then-ranked No. 1, Concordia-St. Paul (18-25,25-19,25-15,25-18) and Minnesota State (25-6,25-18,25-13).

The Mustangs were slated at sixth in the first of three NCAA region rankings released last Wednesday.

Minnesota Duluth leads off the NSIC competition at the No. 4 spot with 974 points after placing at No. 8 last week. Northern State follows at the No. 5 spot and Concordia-St. Paul drops from the top-spot last week to No. 6. RV Wayne State rounds off the NSIC competition in this weeks’ rankings.

Southwest Minnesota State travels to Upper Iowa on Friday for a 6 p.m. match and Winona State on Saturday at 2 p.m. to close the regular season.
