LEXINGTON, Ky. - The Southwest Minnesota State volleyball team moved up one spot to No. 7 in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division II Top-25 coaches’ poll released on Monday. Last week, SMSU dropped from its previous spot at No. 2 in the preseason poll, to No. 8.
The Mustangs took second in the Colorado Premier Challenge this past weekend, only to fall in the championship match against Concordia-St. Paul. Concordia-St. Paul stayed at the No. 2 spot from last week’s poll, however, Minnesota Duluth dropped to the sixth spot after receiving the No. 1 spot last week.
Five Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) teams made the cut for this week, including Concordia-St. Paul leading the way ranked No. 2, Northern State ranked No. 3, Minnesota Duluth ranked No. 6, Southwest Minnesota State coming in at No. 7, and Wayne State coming in as No. 19.
SMSU opens conference play in its home opener on Thursday against Augustana at 6 p.m. in the PE Gym.
