MARSHALL – The Southwest Minnesota State University women’s golf team will host the 21st annual Ramada Mustang Invitational this Saturday and Sunday at the 6,005-yard, par 72 Marshall Golf Club. The 36-hole invite begins with a shotgun start on Saturday at 1 p.m. and will conclude with the final round on Sunday beginning with a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m.
Nearly 90 individuals are expected to compete from 17 teams including Southwest Minnesota State, Augustana, Bemidji State, Black Hills State, Central Missouri, Concordia-St. Paul, Manitoba, Minnesota State, Minnesota Crookston, MSU Moorhead, Minot State, Northwest Missouri State, Rockhurst, St. Cloud State, Sioux Falls, Upper Iowa and Winona State.
Minnesota State won last season’s tournament with a score of 624 (+48). Haley Tollette from Minnesota State captured the individual title with a 6-over-par 150.
SMSU, which finished tied for fourth in last season’s 13-team invite, has won the team title twice (2000 & 2005) during the 20-year history of the invitational.
This will be the third competition for SMSU this fall. The Mustangs competed this past Monday and Tuesday at the Concordia-St. Paul Golden Bear Classic, finishing seventh out of 13 teams with a two-round score of 696. Sophomore Hannah Kohls tied for 16th to lead SMSU with a 24-over 168 (86-82).
Following this weekend, SMSU will compete at the Augustana Fall Invite on Sept. 29-30 at Elmwood Golf Course in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
