PREP SPORTS ROUNDUP: Panthers take out Sting, 3-0

TRACY — No. 2-ranked Tracy-Milroy-Balaton defeated Yellow Medicine East 3-0 (25-20, 25-11, 25-15) on Thursday.

Sydney Lanoue led the Panthers with 13 kills and 10 digs.

Kaylee Kirk served up a pair of aces and recorded a team high 16 digs, while Evy Dolan added seven kills in the win.

Mackenzie Dyrdahl led the Sting with 10 kills and 10 digs.

TMB (10-2) will travel to Burnsville for the Class A Showcase this weekend. YME (3-9) will travel to Hancock on Saturday for a tournament.

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — No. 3-ranked Marshall outlasted Sioux Falls Roosevelt 3-2 (25-19, 23-25, 25-17, 13-25, 15-10) in back-and-forth battle.

“It wasn’t necessarily well-played, but it was exciting,” Marshall coach Dan Westby said after the match. “We did a nice job in the fifth set of increasing our focus and passed well.”

Paige Andries led the Tigers with 10 kills and seven blocks.

Erica Jones added nine kills, while Logan Sherman recorded 20 digs, two aces and 34 assists.

Marshall (9-2) will travel to Apple Valley this weekend for the Class AA Showcase.

Maddy Guetter led the Rabbits with 16 kills and 10 digs.

Gina Goblirsch added 11 kills and two aces in the win, while Jenna Frank recorded four aces and 36 assists.

Wabasso (13-2) will travel to Burnsville for the Class A Showcase this weekend.

CANBY – The Canby volleyball team stayed unbeaten on Thursday with a 3-0 victory (25-14, 25-12, 25-9) over Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg.

Abbey Pederson led the way for the Lancers with 13 kills while Ahlea Wright had eight. Mia Greenman led in digs with 11 while Morgan Cleveland had nine. Cleveland led in set assists with 18 while Pederson had 17.

Canby moves to 12-0 and will play in the Class A Showcase this weekend.

SLAYTON – On parents night in Slayton the Murray County Central Rebels swept the Fulda Raiders to pick up their seventh win of the season.

The Rebels took the first two sets 25-16. They completed the sweep with a 25-18 victory in the third set.

Montana Beckmann and Vittoria Mazzoni both recorded seven kills for the Rebels. Laney Brown led MCC with 22 digs.

With the win the Rebels improved to 7-4 on the season. They’ll look to make it three straight wins on Tuesday against Edgerton.

Talitha Horkey led the way for the Chargers in kills with eight while Alli Vande Kieft had six. Emma Wahl led in digs with 20 while Gracie Wahl had 13. Grace Woelber led in set assists with 20.

WWG (7-9) will face Red Rock Central on Tuesday at 7:15 p.m.

TYLER – Mya Christensen picked up her 1,000 career set assist for the Russell-Tyler-Ruthton Knights during the team’s 3-0 victory against Lac qui Parle Valley. Christensen recorded 37 assists for the Knights in the win.

Lexi Wendland led RTR with 20 kills. Tina Haroldson finished with 15 kills, 18 digs and five blocks.

With the win the Knights extended their winning streak to four games. They are now 6-7 overall. They’ll look to make it five straight Tuesday when they hit the road to take on Dawson-Boyd.

WORTHINGTON — Worthington defeated Marshall 5-2 on Thursday.

Marshall got on the board first, as Loving Stee scored nine minutes in to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead.

From there it was all Trojans to close the half, scoring four goals as Worthington held a 4-1 halftime lead.

Both teams added a goal in the second half, with Maizn Abdallah scoring the second goal of the game for the Tigers.

Marshall finished with just 12 shots on goal, compared to 18 for Worthington.

Marshall (7-3-1) travels to Mankato Loyola on Monday.

MADISON – The Yellow Medicine East tennis team fell to Lac qui Parle Valley/Dawson-Boyd 4-3 on Thursday.

At No. 1 singles, YME’s Anne Clarke defeated Holly Hacker 6-3, 6-4 while YME’s Whitney Tennis fell to Ashtyn Oie at No. 2 singles 6-2, 6-2. At No. 3 singles, YME’s Chelsea Hoernemann defeated Anna Hacker 6-2, 6-1 while YME’s Emily Johnson defeated Addi Oie 3-6, 6-4, 7-6 at No. 4 singles.

At No. 1 doubles, Chelsey Niemeyer and Macie Sik of YME fell to Courtney Hanson and Jessica Sigdahl 6-2, 6-1 while YME’s Hannah Lecy and Emilee Speh fell to Rachel Halvorson and Bree Kallhoff 6-3, 6-2 at No. 2 doubles. At No. 3 doubles, YME’s Ashley Niemeyer and Cherish Hammer fell to Gionna Parsa and Veda Naharaj 7-6, 1-6, 6-1.
