He unexpectedly on Oct. 25, 2018, at his home.

Jeffrey Scott Thiel was born in Minneapolis to Robert and Phyllis (Brodt) Thiel. He was raised in Richfield and graduated from Richfield High School in 1977. He attended the University of Minnesota and received his A&P license from Van Dusen Aviation Maintenance Training Facility in 1982. He worked as an aircraft mechanic for several companies, including Corporate Jets, Continental Airlines and was currently employed by Federal Express.

Jeff met Ruth Rasinski while attending Richfield High School. They married March 24, 1984, at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Edina. They made their home in Denver, Colorado, before moving to Northfield in 1997. They welcomed their sons, Samuel, in 1994 and Jacob, in 1996.

Jeff was a fan of all sports and was an avid skier and golfer. He loved fixing things, especially when it required solving a problem, and history fascinated him. In his later years he enjoyed learning about finance like his father. Jeff was kind and patient; he had an easy-going personality and his quick-wit and fun-loving nature drew people to him. Because Jeff often gave those around him a nickname, he was also known as JT, Tomcat, Tomás, Eavers, and SatchMo. He loved his family and friends with all of his heart. He will be deeply missed.

Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Ruth; sons, Samuel and Jacob; mother, Phyllis Thiel of Apple Valley; sisters, Julie (Mark) Ryan of Mendota Heights and Janet (Rick) Welch of Eugene, Oregon; mother-in-law, Lucille Rasinski of Richfield; in-laws Michael, Jeanne (Kevin) Putt, Patricia (Mark) Terry, Lawrence (Sharon), Mary (Chris) Boosalis, Diane, Debra (Mark) Lundquist, all of Minnesota; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Robert, father-in-law, Clarence, and in-laws Margaret and Jerry Murphy.
