RTR One-Act to compete at state
Russell-Tyler-Ruthton students are prepared to participate in the Class A Minnesota State One-Act Play competition at 11:45 a.m. today at The O'Shaughnessy on the campus of St. Catherine University in St. Paul. RTR took first place with its one-act play called "102" last week in Pipestone to advance to the state competition.
Professional dress fashion show is today
The Human Resources and Accounting Club, American Marketing Association and Enactus clubs at Southwest Minnesota State University are hosting the first Professional Dress Fashion Show from 7-9 p.m. today in the upper level conference center that is free and open for anyone to attend. The aim of the show is to provide do's and don'ts for people to help in understanding what does professional dress look like today, at different budget points. The clubs have received support from local businesses to help with providing looks that highlight new trends in professional attire in an effort to educate both students and the community. The outfits will help attendees with ideas on how to land their desired job or start their first day. Career Services at SMSU will also be on hand to provide guidance on interview techniques and preparation.
In the event of severe weather and school closure the "snow" date is set for March 7 at the same place and time.
Authorities believe 2 sets of remains found near Bemidji
BEMIDJI (AP) -- Authorities in northern Minnesota now believe they may have recovered two sets of human remains near Bemidji.
The Beltrami County Sheriff's Office was contacted Monday about a possible missing person who was traveling to the Bemidji area from the Twin Cities. The caller had not had contact since last week with the family member, who may have been traveling with a friend.
Deputies tracked down the vehicle at the Palace Casino, east of Bemidji, and seized it as evidence. Authorities were able to identify two persons of interest and interview them.
Investigators obtained a search warrant and found the remains at an apparent crime scene in Eckles Township. One person was taken into custody on unrelated charges.
The Ramsey County Medical Examiner is working to identify the remains.
Rarick gives GOP boost with Senate special election win
ST. PAUL (AP) -- Republican Jason Rarick has given his party a boost by winning a special election in Minnesota's state Senate.
Rarick eased past Democrat Stu Lourey to win the District 11 seat that opened up when Lourey's father, Tony Lourey, was appointed to Democratic Gov. Tim Walz's cabinet.
Rarick, a state representative from Pine City, hands the GOP a pickup that boosts their edge in the Senate to 35-32. That gives the party a little more room to maneuver at the Capitol, where the Democrats hold the House.
