Medicare open enrollment assistance available in Marshall
The Minnesota River Area Agency on Aging, Inc. will assist Medicare beneficiaries with their 2018 Medicare plan research and enrollment. Trained volunteers will be available by appointment in Slayton at the MNRAAA office. To schedule an appointment, call the Senior LinkAge Line at 1-800-333-2433.
Assistance is offered Wednesday, Nov. 15, at Hill Street Place, 401 S. St., Marshall.
Medicare beneficiaries need to bring current insurance information, Medicare card and medications.
The 2018 annual enrollment period for Medicare Prescription Drug Plans and Medicare Advantage Plans runs from Oct. 15 to Dec. 7. During this time, you can enroll in a plan if you did not previously enroll or change to a new plan. Changes then become effective on Jan. 1, 2018. If you do not make changes by Dec. 7, in most cases you will not be able to change plans again until 2019.

'Connections: Community Listening Event' seeks public comment in Marshall meeting
The Minnesota Department of Human Services wants to hear from users and providers of mental health, substance use disorder, deaf and hard of hearing and housing services on how to serve Minnesotans better. All interested community members, families, people who are or have received services, policy makers, and service providers may attend. The meeting is from 3-5 p.m. Wednesday at the Marshall-Lyon County Public Library, 201 C St., Marshall.
People often have many needs, but services don't always work together. What are the connections between programs? How can we serve you better? The Minnesota Department of Human Services invites you to come and talk about the services people need and gaps in those services that need to be filled. The result of these meetings will be a report to help guide these services into the future.

Dinner theater Oct. 28 in Ghent is fundraiser for Habitat for Humanity
The second annual Mystery Dinner Theater and Silent Auction to support Habitat for Humanity is Saturday, Oct. 28, at KB's Bar and Grill in Ghent. Doors open at 6 p.m., a time to mingle with suspects, enjoy appetizers and check out the silent auction. The mystery begins at 7 p.m.
Dinner includes salad, grilled chicken breast in mushroom gravy, baked potato and cake. A Halloween dance open to the public starts after the mystery theater ends.

The Redwood River Habitat for Humanity has eight homes in the Marshall area (Marshall, Balaton, Cottonwood, Minneota and Wabasso) and there is one lot on Rainbow Drive in Marshall that will begin construction in 2018.
All proceeds from the fundraiser will go to help build an affordable home to a family in need.
