Saugstad to speak at next Legacy Luncheon Monday at the Y
Bruce Saugstad will speak at noon Monday at the YMCA at the next Legacy Luncheon event. He will talk about how God leads him daily in servant leadership at work, at home and in the community.
Saugstad was born and raised in Huron, S.D., and came to Marshall by way of Southwest Minnesota State University. He is employed with Schwan's in the Information Services department. He has continued his career with Schwan's for the past 28 years. In his current role as senior vice president of Partner Sales, Saugstad is responsible for developing the strategy for the division in conjunction with leading sales and marketing efforts within Partner Sales for Schwan's. He is married to his Linda and they have three children -- Austin, Morgan, and Lexi.
United Way of SW MN announces personal hygiene drive
United Way of Southwest Minnesota is coordinating a personal hygiene drive to benefit area food shelves, crisis programs, schools, etc. Personal hygiene items are an ongoing need at various schools and human service providers. They are also not often able to be purchased at low cost by providers who may be eligible to purchase food items from a food bank to serve children, families and seniors in need.
United Way of Southwest Minnesota volunteers will pack kits for distribution. The United Way of Southwest Minnesota will continue to accept/collect items on an ongoing basis and engage volunteers to assist after the targeted drive is complete. This is an ongoing need. All kits will benefit youth, families and seniors in the United Way of Southwest Minnesota service area. The United Way of Southwest Minnesota serves Lincoln, Lyon, Murray, Yellow Medicine and portions of Cottonwood, Lac qui Parle, Nobles and Redwood counties. Only new, unopened items will be accepted.
Personal care items needed: shampoo, conditioner, soap, body wash, deodorant, shaving cream, mouthwash, hand sanitizer, toothpaste and lotion. These items can be travel or full size products. Razors, toothbrushes, dental floss, toilet paper, diapers, tissues, feminine hygiene products, quart size zip lock bags, gift cards: Hy-Vee, Menard's, Shopko, Wal-Mart. Items can be dropped off at our office the week of Oct. 30-Nov. 3. United Way of Southwest Minnesota is located at 800 E. Main St., Marshall.

Scandinavian-American Hall of Fame inductees announced
MINOT, N.D. (AP) -- A four-generation business, a Finnish chef and author, and a technology and business leader will be inducted this year to the Scandinavian-American Hall of Fame.
The hall in Minot honors people of Scandinavian descent in North America who have achieved greatness in their field.
This year's honorees include the Tollefson's Retail Group furniture and flooring business, which was started by the son of Norwegian immigrants in 1925 and now has locations throughout the Upper Midwest.
Finnish-born chef Soile Anderson of Minnesota's Twin Cities has served U.S. presidents, the Dalai Lama and royalty.
Norwegian-American Nathan Myhrvold is co-founder and CEO of Intellectual Ventures. He's an inventor, physicist, chef, photographer, author and former Microsoft officer.
This year's induction ceremony is Sept. 26 during the annual Norsk Hostfest Scandinavian heritage festival.
