Lynd seventh grader Payton Swanson explains a "Mentos Reaction" to a judge Friday morning at the annual science fair for sixth- through eighth-graders. Swanson plopped a roll of Mentos candy into five different carbonated beverages to see which would achieve the biggest reaction. She found that root beer foamed to 2 feet as the sugar reacted to the carbonation.
