Aldi to open doors this week
Marshall grand opening on Thursday part of company’s nationwide expansion plan

MARSHALL -- Construction for the new Aldi location in Marshall started this spring, and now the supermarket is getting ready to officially open its doors. Aldi announced that it will be holding a grand opening for the Marshall store on Thursday morning.
The grand opening will start with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 8:25 a.m. Thursday. The grand opening festivities will include a giveaway of gift cards to the first 100 customers. Shoppers will also be able to enter a sweepstakes for a chance to win a year's supply of produce, Aldi spokespeople said.
Store hours will be 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., seven days a week.
In a news release announcing the grand opening, Matt Lilla, Faribault division vice president for Aldi, said the new store was designed to offer a different experience for customers.
"Aldi stores are designed to make life easier for people. We offer high-quality foods at affordable prices and a streamlined shopping experience unlike anything else," Lilla said.
Part of that experience includes a streamlined product selection, and simplified operations like asking customers to bag their own groceries. Aldi spokespeople said the Marshall location will also feature a new store layout, and additional refrigeration space for fresh products.
"From our award-winning products, to trendy, fresh and healthy options, we're focused on carrying a selection that has something for everyone," Lilla said.
Aldi operates more than 1,800 U.S. stores, spread across 35 states. That includes around 60 stores in Minnesota. And more are coming, Aldi spokespeople said -- the Marshall store is part of a push to expand to 22,500 stores nationwide by the end of 2022. The expansion is a $3.4 billion investment, spokespeople said.
