TRACY -- New Tracy Chamber of Commerce Director Brittany Larson has returned home in hopes to see the city grow.
"It's great seeing old family friends again," Larson said, "and have them see me as a responsible adult, not just Steve and Debbie's daughter."
Larson is eagerly looking forward to being a part of the planning sessions for all the various hometown events that have become traditions for her and her community.
"I've always been pro-community," she said. "I graduated Tracy Area High School in 2010 and had been active in sports and things. As I get older, I still try to stay involved. I'm interested in all the community events and still have family here."
Her father Steve is reitred. Her mother, Deborah, is deceased. Her brother, Tristan, works for a local construction company.
Tracy is Larson's hometown, she said. "So, I want to see it grow. I'd like to see more volunteers, to see the city prosper. My goal is to increase our membership. By doing this we can come up with more ideas and (work) more events."
Larson is coming home after two years of working in the Twin Cities. She started with an internship at the Minnesota Zoo. She also has six months experience at Unity Health Group in Minnetonka where she was a tech person who developed documents and sorted data for filing into new computer systems.
"I'm looking forward to expanding and updating the Chamber's web page," Larson said.
Her background included a masters in business administration with a focus on advertising. She studied marketing and business and got marketing experience by working with Jim Tate, the media director at Southwest Minnesota State University. From Tate, she learned how to write press releases and assisted Tate with social media.
"I got to see Jim's articles and help him with press development for major events," she said. "I also learned to delegate. Those were the building blocks that led to this position."
Larson will be considered a part-time director with hours from 8 a.m.-2:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday. At present, the outgoing director, Kim Roggatz, is showing her the ropes.
