Location to hold multi-tenants including Ashley HomeStore

MARSHALL -- Finally, the former Kmart building will be a viable shopping location once more.
The building at 1001 Highway 23 North in Marshall, which was closed in 2014, is going to be redeveloped into a multi-tenant building including an Ashley HomeStore.
And yes, the parking lot and adjacent road will be re-paved.
Cal Brink, economic development director, confirmed that The Furniture Mart USA, which is based in Sioux Falls, S.D., has bought the property and plans to develop the 100,000 square foot building into a retail store that most likely will include an Ashley Furniture HomeStore.
"Ashley Furniture HomeStore will take up less than half of the space," said Brink. "What occupies the rest is unknown."
The parking lot is noted for being in poor shape.
The parking lot and "roadway" will be redone "immediately," said Brink.
"(The roadway) seems like a city street, but is part of the parking lot," he said.
Brink said that location by Affiliated Community Medical Centers and the new GuidePoint pharmacy is an ideal retail location with good visibility from Minnesota Highway 23.
Kmart's next door neighbor, the old Schweser's store, which closed last year, will be occupied by a new business as well, Brink said.
According to it website, Furniture Mart USA includes Ashley Furniture HomeStores, Furniture Mart and Unclaimed Freight Furniture and was founded in 1976.
Sears Holdings closed Kmart in the summer of 2014 as part of a series of cost-saving measures.
