Marshall Radio Sports Director Ryan Rohlik received a prestigious honor from the Minnesota Broadcasters Association. Rohlik received the Minnesota Broadcasters Association Award of Excellence for Sports Coverage (Non-Metro) during the MBA's annual conference Oct. 7 in Hastings.
Rohlik hosts daily sports casts on the stations of Marshall Radio, and calls football, volleyball, basketball, baseball and softball games for Southwest Minnesota State University and Marshall High School. He also hosts the weekly Saturday Morning Mustang program on KMHL.
"I'm humbled and honored," said Rohlik. "Many things go on behind the scenes, so this is a group award.
None of it would be possible without the partnership and support of our area schools, coaches and student athletes along with our full broadcast team to share the student athlete story."
Rohlik acknowledged he's lucky to work with a group of people that take pride in putting out an exceptional product and communities that supports high school and college athletics.
Rohlik began calling games for Marshall High School in 2000 after the sudden passing of local broadcast legend Jerry Marquardt. He began calling play-by-play for Southwest Minnesota State in 2013. He oversees a sports department that broadcasts more than 500 local sports events each year that covers student athletes in Marshall, Tracy-Milroy-Balaton, Minneota, Lakeview, Russell-Tyler-Ruthton, Springfield, Redwood Falls, Wabasso and SMSU.
"We're so proud of Ryan and his professional commitment to broadcasting sports in our area," said Marshall Radio General Manager Aaron Ziemer. "Ryan is a tireless advocate for the great student athletes in southwest Minnesota and brings his love of the game into the homes and cars of listeners all throughout the region."
