The 20th annual Fall Pumpkin Festival at Lake Shetek State Park's picnic area will be from 1-3:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17. Jump in the large leaf pile for prizes or just for fun. There will be wagon rides, pumpkin decorating, coloring contest, s'mores by the campfire, along with other activities and refreshments.

New this year, there will be a 5K and 1-mile fun run, starting Saturday morning at 10:30 a.m., at the Loon Island Trailhead. There is no registration needed, but prizes will be given for the best costume worn for the run.

The Fall Pumpkin Festival is sponsored by the Friends of Lake Shetek State Park and the Currie Town and Country Boosters. It is free to the public; however, state park vehicle permits are required to enter the park. Daily permits are $7 per vehicle or $35 for an annual permit and can be purchased at the park office.

Lake Shetek State Park is located 14 miles northeast of Slayton or 13 miles south of Tracy. Access to the park is by County Road 38, north of Currie. For more information or to volunteer at the event, contact the park directly at (507) 763-3256 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. daily.
