RTR blanks YME to open season

TYLER -- Big plays were the story of the game when Russell-Tyler-Ruthton hosted Yellow Medicine East for its season opener on Thursday. The Knights had three touchdowns of 50 yards or longer in the game, rolling to a 34-0 win over the Sting.

The Knights first claimed the lead with a 56-yard rushing touchdown in the first quarter, and closed out the night's scoring with an 87-yard run in the third. RTR finished with 313 yards on 38 attempts as a team.

RTR padded its lead after halftime with a 61-yard passing touchdown to go up 28-0.

Liam Anderson and Dane Hildahl gave the Sting a strong tandem in the passing game. Anderson threw for 149 yards, with two interceptions, while Hildahl caught four passes for 61 yards.

Hiladahl was also the Sting's defensive leader with five solo tackles. Jack Mensink added a sack with three tackles.

RTR improves to 1-0 and remains on its home field to host Sleepy Eye United (0-1) on Friday at 7 p.m.

Yellow Medicine East falls to 0-1 and hosts Dawson-Boyd (0-0) for its home opener on Friday at 7 p.m.
