Planter boxes fundraiser

1 min read

YMCA middle school-age students, with the help of several master gardeners, have made five raised planter boxes as a fundraiser for the YMCA camp program. These planter boxes will be for sale at the Master Gardener Plant Sale from 7 a.m. to noon today at the Marshall Farmers Market. The finished cedar boxes measure approximately 36 x 24 x 18 and are 30 inches tall. They will sell for $175 each.

Cindy Rosa, CEO of the YMCA, originally suggested the idea back in early spring. Master gardeners, Heather Moore and Jen Connors, volunteered to help. Throughout the summer, eight to 15 YMCA kids and their camp leader, Eastyn Ochocki, participated each week. The YMCA provided the funding, and the kids purchased the materials from Menards. They learned to read and follow plans and how to use a variety of tools. The kids worked hard each week as they measured, cut, and assembled the five planter boxes.
