MARSHALL — How many pieces of candy can you get for $200.

Show up at around 3:30 p.m. on Thursday in downtown Marshall, walk up to the big fire truck parked on Main Street and look up. All those pieces of candy will be falling from a aerial basket.

The candy drop is just one of many activities planned for this year’s Crazy Days set for July 16.

For the children, fun activities start early with the traditional kiddie parade at 10 a.m.

“Lineup is at 10 and it starts at 10:30. We will have Popsicles and a little dance party with a DJ at the Terrace (1872), which will be pretty fun. It switches to some live music,” said Sam Lund, Marshall Area Chamber of Commerce event specialist.

Story time with Miss Jen from the Marshall-Lyon County Library will follow at 11 a.m., according to Lund. A petting zoo is scheduled for 4 p.m.

The Lyon County Museum will hold a scavenger hunt starting at 10 a.m.

“The museum will be open so you can get out of the heat,” Director Jennifer Andries said. “We’ll have some complimentary treats too.”

Meanwhile, there will be plenty of activities for adults to enjoy. In fact, Crazy Days will transition into Eats and Beats on Third Street later in the day so the fun continues all day. And don’t forget all the Crazy Days specials set up outside the various downtown retail stores on Main Street.

Besides the DJ for kids in the morning, there will be plenty of music throughout the day. Remi Anderson and Eli Cole from Music Street on Main Street plan on playing some instruments outside the store.

“We’ll probably play some piano. (Anderson) will play a little bit of guitar,” Cole said. “Just going to play some popular music. Play together, play separately. We’re probably gonna do that in the afternoon for an hour or two. Probably around one o’clock.”

If you get hungry, there will be plenty of food options including the many restaurants on Main Street. Food trucks include Maui Wowi, A Good Lemon, Lodestar Buffalo and Mama Maria’s Rolling Taco Kitchen.

Other vendors will include Visit Marshall, Culligan Water of Southwest, Hope Harbor, The Jam Man and Otto Orange Books by Lilly Boelter.

After eating, head over to Third Street at 6 p.m. and listen to the classic rock and country music from Buffalo Alice during Eats and Beats.

And you can wash down the food with happy hour drinks provided by the Gambler, which will be set up outside of MRSL Fitness on Third Street.

“It’s great to see the community come out to listen to some great music,” said Adri DeBoer, communication coordinator for Visit Marshall.

Starting at $3.95/week.
