Dahms and Swedzinski host final town hall meetings
State Senator Gary Dahms, R-Redwood Falls, and State Representative Chris Swedzinski, R-Ghent, invite area residents to attend their last joint town hall meetings on Thursday, May 21, in Tracy, Marshall, Minneota, Canby, Madison, Dawson, and Granite Falls. The senator and representative are not seeking re-election, so these meetings will be the last of a series that began in 2011.
“We have enjoyed holding these town hall meetings over the years,” said Dahms.
“We look forward to visiting with our constituents and thanking them for their support,” Swedzinski added.
The town hall meetings are an opportunity for constituents to receive an update on the recently concluded legislative session and ask questions.
The following town hall meetings will be held Thursday, May 21:
Tracy: 7:30-8:15 a.m., at the City Hall, Council Chambers, 336 Morgan Street
Marshall: 9-9:45 a.m., sponsored by the Marshall Area Chamber of Commerce at the YMCA, 200 South A Street
Minneota: 10:20-11 a.m. at the City Hall, 129 East 1st Street
Canby: 11:30 a.m.-12:15 p.m., at the City Hall, 110 Oscar Avenue North
Dawson: 2:45-3:30 p.m. at the City Building, 675 Chestnut Street
Granite Falls: 4:15-5 p.m. at the City Hall Council Chambers, 641 Prentice Street
Museum announces Find Your Veteran database
The Lyon County Historical Society (LCHS), 301 West Lyon Street, Marshall announced its new database, Find Your Veteran, on the museum’s website: www.lyoncomuseum.org. The database is dedicated to Lyon County veterans.
Every veteran collection holds stories of service, sacrifice, and pride. The Find Your Veteran platform, developed by the company Creature Works, helps ensure those stories are preserved, discoverable, and easy to explore and understand. Find Your Veteran is a searchable living resource for visitors and researchers. The database allows for people to search veterans by name, service branch, era, or community. Right now, there are over 1,100 Lyon County veterans on the database.

New exhibit at museum
A new temporary exhibit, “Organizations of Lyon County” is now open at the Lyon County Museum, 301 West Lyon Street, Marshall. The exhibit features objects, photographs, and documents from the Lyon County Museum’s collection related to organizations in Lyon County. Examples include: Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, American Legion, Lions Club, Rotary, Kiwanis, Knight of Columbus, Masons, 4-H, and much more. The theme of the exhibit coincides with the America 250 and America Gives Initiative. The United States has a long history of service and civic engagement.
The initiative encourages Americans to take a “Year of Service” pledge, fostering community, patriotism, and a lasting culture of giving back to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the United States in 2026. The initiative is designed to be inclusive and to highlight the American history and spirit of service in all its forms.
“Organizations of Lyon County” is located on the 2nd floor of the Lyon County Museum. The exhibit will close in 2027.
