The headliners at this year’s Sounds of Summer will be bringing something new to the Marshall festival. On Thursday, Sounds of Summer revealed that the festival’s Saturday night concert will feature the band Viva Knievel, with opening act Maiden Dixie.
“We are going to have a blast,” said Viva Knievel member Mark Schwandt, in a video reveal on the Sounds of Summer Facebook page. “If you don’t know Viva Knievel, we are an American wrecking ball. We run the gamut from having 13 members to 113, depending on the night and depending on the mood.”
Schwandt said the band covers hit songs ranging from the 1960s to the present.
Viva Knievel will take the stage at Sounds of Summer on Aug. 22.
“We’re excited for everyone to come and enjoy it,” said Brock Klaith, with the Sounds of Summer organizing committee.

Klaith said festival organizers had been working with Time Music Agency to try and find new musical groups for Sounds of Summer. Viva Knievel had never performed at the festival before, and some of the Sounds of Summer organizers had heard and enjoyed them at other events, Klaith said.
In addition to being a big, high-energy band, Viva Knievel also features a full horn section, Schwandt said.
“It brings a unique twist,” to a band that’s already out of the ordinary, Klaith said. Viva Knievel is also a great fit for Sounds of Summer, because their music appeals to a wide range of people, he said.
“That’s kind of what we feed on, is hitting every demographic,” Klaith said.
Klaith said festival organizers were excited to bring Viva Knievel to Marshall, and to welcome back country rock band Maiden Dixie. Maiden Dixie has performed at Sounds of Summer before, including last year, when they were one of the opening acts for the Fabulous Armadillos.
Sounds of Summer will be August 19-23 in Marshall. “We’re working on a couple of new events,” Klaith said. But the festival will include plenty of returning favorites like the family fun night, and live music.
