MnDOT conducting aerial photography work in SW Minnesota

The Minnesota Department of Transportation will conduct aerial mapping in southwest Minnesota this spring. The mapping will create a record of existing infrastructure and landscape along, and adjacent to, MnDOT right of way for transportation planning and highway design. This work is conducted when there is no snow and before trees leaf out.

Weather permitting, work will begin late March and conclude early in May at the following locations:

Highway 9 — Highway 23 to Glen Oaks Drive in New London

Highway 12 — 6th Street Southeast to one-half mile east of Kandiyohi County Road 9 in Willmar

Highway 23 — 45th Avenue Southwest to one-half mile east of County Road 5 southwest of Willmar

Highway 30 – South Dakota Border to 30th Avenue west of Pipestone

Highway 30 — Ravine Street to the east junction of Highway 91 in Lake Wilson

Highway 68 — 320th Street to 1,000 feet southeast of East Maskel Street in Ghent

Highway 167 — Highway 23 to one mile west of Yellow Medicine River Bridge southeast of Granite Falls

The public is asked to not disturb temporary targets

To obtain accurate aerial mapping, MnDOT crews paint large white “X” targets on paved surfaces, and place plastic or fabric “X” targets on unpaved surfaces. Examples of the types of targets that may be used are attached.

A survey crew then records the coordinate position and elevation of the temporary targets for the aerial photography company. The plastic and fabric targets are temporary and will be removed by MnDOT when the photography is completed.

Landowners in the areas that will have targets placed on or near their property will be contacted directly. MnDOT asks that landowners and others who come across targets not remove or disturb the targets. If a target must be moved, please contact the District 8 Willmar Office at 320-231-5195 and ask for assistance from Surveys.

Starting at $3.95/week.
