n Marshall Middle School after school program is open to all 5th- through 8th-grade students and meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:05-5 p.m. at the Marshall Middle School. This program will run through the end of the school year — for $40.

n Girls junior basketball will meet on Saturday mornings from Jan. 7 through Feb. 11 at Park Side School. Preschool through 1st grade will meet from 9-9:45 a.m. Grades 2-3 will meet from 9:45-10:30 a.m. The first four Saturdays will be working on basics and developing basketball skills, and the final two Saturdays will be structured toward game play and competition. Fee: $35 for residents, $43.75 for non-residents.

n Open softball for grades 7-12 will be Sundays from Jan. 8-March 5 from 1-4 p.m. at the Marshall Middle School. Batting cages and pitching mounds will be available.  Fee: $30 for residents, $37.50 for non-residents.

n Open baseball will be Sundays from Jan. 8-March 19 at the Marshall Middle School. Grades 5-8 will meet from 4-5 p.m. Grades 9-12 will meet from 5-6 p.m. Batting cages and pitching mounds will be available. Fee: $30 for residents, $37.50 for non-residents.

n Driver education information meeting

Marshall Community Services and Marshall Public Schools will have a parent/guardian information meeting at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 9, in the Marshall Middle School theater.  Parents/guardians of current 8th-grade students should attend this meeting. Agenda items will include program information and material distribution, training session schedules, student expectations, introductions of the program’s instructors and the MCS registration process. There will also be time for questions. Call Marshall Community Services at 537-6767 with questions.

n Youth archery lessons (for ages 8 and older) will be Mondays (Jan. 9 through Feb. 13) from 6-7 p.m. at the Saratoga Archery Club (1720 County Road 9 in Tracy). Learn the basics of archery and gain shooting experience with personalized instruction. Fee: $35 per person.

n ECFE — All About Two’s (for 2-year-olds with a parent) will be from 4:30-5:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 9, in the ECFE classroom. Fun winter activities like snow sculpting in the sensory table, “ice skating” in the gym and a delicious snack will be provided. There is no cost to participate, but register with MCS.

n ECFE — Baby Play Date for birth-12 months with a parent will be from 10-11:30 a.m. Mondays (Jan. 9, Feb. 13, March 13, April 10 and May 8) at Boulder Creek Assisted Living and Memory Care (604 Village Drive in Marshall).  Boulder Creek Assisted Living and ECFE are joining hands to create a Baby Play Date with residents in the Marshall community. This intergenerational class is designed for parents and their babies to engage and connect with those who have dementia, learn about the disease and how babies are great therapy for the residents. There is no cost to participate, but register with MCS.

n Substitute teaching and substitute paraprofessional informational meeting will be from 4-5 p.m. Monday, Jan. 9, or from 9-10 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 12, in the Professional Development Room in the district office. Marshall Public Schools is in need of additional substitute teachers and substitute paraprofessionals — learn about the application process, duties, expectations, scheduling, wages and what a typical day is like. There is no fee for this meeting, but register with MCS if you plan to attend.

n How to Eat for Health and Weight Loss will be from 6-8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 9, at Southwest Nutrition (105 N. 3rd St. in Marshall). Learn how to chart your eating habits, along with what foods to eat or avoid. Also learn where to set your macro nutrient needs. Fee: $10 per person.

n Little Cubs Preschool — Come and See Class (for current Little Cubs students and their parents) will be Tuesdays (Jan. 10-24) from 6:30-8 p.m. in the Marshall Middle School — Little Cubs Room (use ECFE entrance). The first half of class will be play time and learning time with your child. The second half will have parents separating to another room to discuss topics/curriculum that the kids are using throughout their day. Fee: $18 per family.

n ECFE — First Friends (for birth-5 years with a parent) will be Wednesdays (Jan. 11-March 29) from 8:30-10 a.m. or 10:15-11:45 a.m. at the ECFE office in the Marshall Middle School. Fee is per family: $50 for residents, $62.50 for non-residents. (Sliding fee scale applies to this class.)

n Indoor soccer academy for boys and girls in grades K-8 will meet from Jan. 11 through Feb. 22 at the Marshall Middle School. Practices will be on Wednesdays from 6-6:45 p.m. for grades K-3 and from 7-8 p.m. for grades 4-8.  Games will be on Saturday afternoons from noon-1:30 p.m. for grades K-3 and from 1:30-3 p.m. for grades 4-8. Fee: $35 for residents, $43.75 for non-residents.

n Planning for a Confident Retirement will be at 5:30 p.m. at the Ameriprise office (408 E. Main St.) on Thursday, Jan. 12. This class will cover where retirement income comes from, how much money is needed to retire, what age Social Security should be drawn and more. Fee: $5 per person.

n ECFE — Popular Parenting (for birth-5 years with a parent) will be on Fridays (Jan. 13-April 7) from 9:30-11 a.m. at the ECFE office in the Marshall Middle School. Fee is per family: $50 for residents, $62.50 for non-residents. (Sliding fee scale applies to this class.)

n ECFE-Super Saturdays — A Place to Play (for birth-5 years with a parent) will be Saturdays (Jan. 14, Feb. 11 and March 11) from 9:30-11 a.m. at the ECFE office in the Marshall Middle School. Fee is per family: $12 for residents, $15 for non-residents.

n Driver education classroom openings: The next classroom session of Driver Education will be Jan. 15 through Feb. 6 at the MERIT Center. The program will begin with a parent/teen session at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 15, at the Marshall Middle School. Students must be age 14 before they begin the classroom. A completed contract (with both parent/guardian and student signatures) and the registration fee are required to hold a spot in the class. Registration is limited; sign up today. n Introduction to chess will be from 3:20-4:30 p.m. Tuesdays in the West Side School cafeteria from Jan. 17 through March 21 (no class 1/31). For students in grades 3-6, this after school offering will teach the fundamentals of the great game of chess, from identifying the pieces and how they move to the basic strategies and tactics of playing. Fee: $30 for residents, $37.50 for non-residents.

n Marshall Middle School theater troupe (for boys and girls in grades 5-8) will be in the Marshall Middle School Theater on Jan. 18, 25, 30, February 1, 6, 8, 13, 15, 21, 22, 27, March 1, 6 and 8 from 3:05-5 p.m. on regular school days and from 2:30-4:30 p.m. on early out Wednesdays. Performances will be Thursday, March 9, and Friday, March 10. Fee: $45 for residents, $56.25 for non-residents.
