Wabasso stays unbeaten with win over Cathedral

WABASSO — The No. 4 Wabasso Rabbits’ undefeated start to the season continued on Friday night as they picked up a 28-16 win over No. 9 New Ulm Cathedral to improve to 4-0 on the season. Wabasso trailed 8-6 after the first quarter, but Drew Kemp completed a 19-yard touchdown to Brooks Baune early in the second to take a lead that the Rabbits retained for the remainder of the game. DAWSON — A third-quarter touchdown wasn’t enough to spark the No. 5 Dawson-Boyd football team to victory against No. 2 Springfield on Friday night. The Blackjacks scored the game’s first and last points, but ultimately fell 21-10 to the Tigers. Elvis Bellefeuille nailed a 34-yard first-quarter field goal for the Blackjacks, but it was all Springfield from there as the Tigers scored 21 unanswered points to take a commanding lead. MARSHALL — The Marshall tennis team had no answer for Montevideo on Friday in a 6-1 loss. Julia Pafko gave Marshall its lone win in singles No. 3, topping Jayla Kinmach 6-1, 6-3. Kathryn Coudron put up a strong fight in the top singles matchup, but was swept 7-6 (4), 6-4 by Nora Mages. Lancers show strong moments at Class A Showcase

BURNSVILLE — After making the trip to Burnsville to compete in the Class A Showcase, Canby volleyball came away from the weekend with several strong performances and plenty of positives to build on. The Lancers opened the weekend with a three-set victory over Chisholm, winning 26-14, 19-25, 15-8. BURNSVILLE — Minneota volleyball continued its recent tear at the Class A Volleyball Showcase, winning all five of its matches over the weekend to claim the championship. The Vikings opened with a sweep of Ely, winning 25-9, 25-15, before defeating Spring Grove 25-20, 25-16. Minneota then swept Sacred Heart 25-21, 25-14, before earning a three-set victory over RTR, 25-18, 18-25, 15-13.
