Stratmoen’s strong performance not enough in Blackjacks loss

BENSON — Claire Stratmoen and Kate Gruwell put together valiant defensive efforts as the Dawson-Boyd volleyball team fell 3-0 to Benson in a non-conference matchup. Stratmoen tallied a team-leading 13 digs while Gruwell added another 10. Lilly Lee also made an impact at the net with two ace blocks and a block assist, and her four kills trailed only Ragan Viessman’s five. Emma Stotesbery recorded 10 set assists in the match. COTTONWOOD — After dropping a tightly contested opening set to Wabasso, the Lakeview volleyball team settled in on its home court and rallied to win the next three sets, securing its first home victory of the season 25-27, 25-18, 25-21, 25-22. RENVILLE — Despite an all-around effort from Natasha Erickson, the Red Rock Central volleyball team was unable to overcome Renville County West, falling to the Jaguars in three sets, 25-11, 25-8, 25-16. Erickson provided contributions in nearly every statistical category for the Falcons, recording four kills, seven digs, three assists and one block. PRINGFIELD — Hadley Jenniges facilitated a balanced attack for the Westbrook-Walnut Grove volleyball team in its season opener against Springfield on Tuesday. The Chargers controlled each of the non-conference match’s three sets, claiming a 25-10, 26-24, 25-15 win behind Jenniges’ 22 set assists. GRANITE FALLS — A strong third set wasn’t enough to spark a comeback for the Yellow Medicine East volleyball team Tuesday night as it dropped a non-conference match against Hancock in four sets, 25-12, 25-14, 19-25, 25-18. CANBY — After dropping the first set of its season-opener against Murray County Central on Tuesday, the Canby volleyball team bounced back with three straight set victories for a 12-25, 25-18, 25-14, 25-19 win. The Lancers were aggressive at the service line with 18 aces on the day, including six from Shyanna Stoll and four each from Emily and Kinsley Verhelst.
