SMSU volleyball moves up to No. 11 in most recent AVCA poll

LEXINGTON - The Southwest Minnesota State volleyball team (9-2, 3-1 NSIC) moved up three spots to No. 11 in the recent AVCA Top 25 Coaches' Poll, released Monday afternoon. SMSU, in their 2026 home debut, defeated then No. 10 ranked St. Cloud State in four sets, before sweeping Minnesota State. SMSU is one of five teams from the NSIC represented in the top 25. RTR volleyball wins four straight to improve to 6-1

TYLER — After a strong weekend, RTR volleyball has won four consecutive matches and improved to 6-1 on the season. The Knights defeated Adrian/Ellsworth in three sets last Thursday before adding two more victories Saturday, sweeping both Luverne and Red Rock Central. All seven of RTR’s matches this season, including its lone loss to Minneota, have ended in sweeps. The Knights will look to keep rolling Sept. 22 when they travel to Westbrook-Walnut Grove. First serve is scheduled for 7:15 p.m.

Blackjacks fall to Hancock in straight sets

HANCOCK — Dawson-Boyd volleyball hit the road for a matchup with Hancock, falling to the home team in a three-set sweep. The Blackjacks fell 11-25, 13-25, 26-28. Kate Gruwall led Dawson-Boyd with five service aces, while Kadyn Perkins added two and Emma Stotesbery had one. Perkins also led the Blackjacks with 15 kills, while Stotesbery recorded a team-high eight digs and 18 assists. Dawson-Boyd will return to action Sept. 21 with a road matchup against Minneota. First serve is scheduled for 7:15 p.m.

Mustangs tied for fifth following round one of The Jewel Invite

LAKE CITY – The Southwest Minnesota State University women’s golf team is currently tied for fifth place, shooting a 34-over-par 322, following round one of the 12-team Jewel Invite hosted by Concordia-St. Paul and played at the par-72 Jewel Golf Club. Augustana is in first place with a score of 303 and holds a two-stroke lead over Sioux Falls. MINNEOTA — Minneota football extended its winning streak to 49 games with a 65-14 victory over Canby, setting a new school record and tying for the fifth-longest winning streak in Minnesota State High School League history. After Canby opened the game with a 95-yard kickoff return touchdown, the Vikings responded with 24 consecutive points to take control. Canby cut the deficit to 24-14, but Minneota answered with 41 straight points to pull away and secure the 65-14 win. The Vikings’ defense also shut out Canby in the second half.
