MARSHALL -- The Marshall volleyball team continued its postseason run Friday night, earning a straight-set victory over Mankato East with set scores of 25-10, 25-15 and 25-12.
The Tigers controlled the match throughout, using a balanced offensive attack and strong serving to secure the sweep and advance to the section championship match.
Julia Fahl and Bentley Krull led Marshall with 11 kills apiece. Fahl also recorded five service aces and six digs, while Krull helped pace the Tigers’ attack.
Nora Holmgren also finished with 11 kills, recording them on 16 attempts. Laurel Ryks added six kills on 10 attempts, while Chika Nwakama contributed three kills.
Marshall also found success from the service line. Madi Mernaugh recorded three aces, while Leah Stelter and Sara Dallmann each added one. Stelter also finished with two digs.
Fahl’s five aces helped the Tigers put pressure on Mankato East throughout the match, while the offensive production from Krull, Holmgren and Ryks gave Marshall multiple options at the net.
Marshall will now face Willmar in the section championship Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Redwood Falls High School. The Tigers will enter the matchup with confidence after sweeping Willmar on the road earlier this season.
However, the stakes will be much higher this time, with the winner earning a trip to the state tournament.
