By Daniel Lins 2 min read

WABASSO -- Drew Kemp threw a pair of fourth-quarter touchdowns to lead the top-seeded Wabasso football team's comeback against No. 5 Red Rock Central on Saturday in the Section 2 9-player semifinals. The Rabbits fell to the Falcons in last year's section championship game after finding themselves on the wrong side of a comeback, but got the job this time around with a 26-15 win.

The Rabbits trailed 15-12 heading into the fourth quarter, but Kemp flipped the script with a 21-yard touchdown pass to Brooks Baune to take the lead. The two-point conversion attempt failed, but Kemp followed up with a four-yard touchdown pass to Nolan Leopold, who also ran in the ensuing 2-point attempt for a 26-15 lead.

Kemp finished his day completing 17 of his 26 pass attempts for 198 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. He also ran the ball 12 times for 82 yards and a pair of first-half touchdowns.

Trailing by a score, RRC took the lead in the second quarter on a 27-yard touchdown run by Jordan Therkilsen. Kemp responded with a six-yard touchdown run of his own before halftime, but Marshall Willhite came up with a 71-yard touchdown run for the Falcons in the third quarter to regain a 15-12 lead.

Therkilsen led the RRC offense with 33 carries for 129 yards. He completed two of his six pass attempts for eight yards.

Leopold was the Rabbits' primary rusher on the day with 18 carries for 105 yards, while Jack Burns was the team's top target in the passing game with six catches for 85 yards.

On the defensive side of the ball, Nolan Hanson tallied seven solo and eight assisted tackles. Caden Frericks also logged a sack with four solo tackles.

Isac Grant led the Falcons defensively with an interception and eight solo tackles. Jackson Radmaker also logged a pick while Jonah Skarupa contributed six total and 10 assisted tackles.

Wabasso improves to a perfect 9-0 and prepares to take on New Ulm Cathedral (8-1) in the section championship game on Friday.

Red Rock Central finishes its season at 4-6 and graduates Therkilsen, Willhite, Skarupa, Grant Kronback, Braylen Bedner and Treyton Knutson.
