DAWSON -- Defensive dominance set the tone for the No. 2 Dawson-Boyd football team in its Section 4A semifinal matchup against No. 6 Canby on Saturday. The Blackjacks scored a pair of defensive touchdowns in the first quarter and rolled to a 56-13 win, setting up a rematch of last year's section championship against Minneota.

Mason Bothun got the ball rolling for the Blackjacks early with a 44-yard pick 6. He also scored on a 22-yard receiving touchdown later in the quarter after Kingston Crosby returned a blocked kick for a touchdown.

Colten Bothun was the Blackjacks' primary offensive engine in the game, finishing with nine carries for 95 yards and a six-yard rushing touchdown in the first quarter.

Carson Stratmoen completed each of his three pass attempts on the day for 55 yards and a touchdown. Caden Brent also completed two of his eight pass attempts for 37 yards, two interceptions and a 25-yard touchdown pass to Cale Tufto in the second quarter, and he punched in a rushing touchdown before halftime as well to go into the locker room up 56-0.

In addition to Bothun's pick-6, Jaxton Hastad also had a pair of interceptions and Crosby logged two blocks and a fumble recovery.

Leading 28-0 after the first, the Blackjacks continued to pile on the points with a pair of short-yardage touchdowns from Aedyn Dahl and Aiden Olson in the second.

Hastad led the team in receiving yards with 33 on two catches.

Dawson-Boyd improves to 8-2 and looks to dethrone six-time reigning section champion Minneota (9-0) on Friday at 2 p.m. at Southwest Minnesota State University. The Vikings defeated the Blackjacks 42-16 in last year's section final, and 28-21 in the regular season this year.
