MAYER -- There wasn't a ball that Kezlyn Pinckney and Madi Mernaugh couldn't get to for the Marshall volleyball team as the Tigers took on Mayer Lutheran in a top-5 non-conference matchup on Thursday. The backrow duo shined as Marshall staved off the Crusaders for a 25-22, 25-20, 17-25, 25-22 win.
Pinckney led the team with 29 digs, followed by 21 from Mernaugh and 13 from Fahl.
Leah Stelter was an effective distributor for the team in the game, dishing out 39 set assists. Nora Holmgren led the team's hitters with 13 kills, as well as four ace blocks, followed by 11 from Bentley Krull and nine from Chika Nwakama.
Jennifer Lee served up four aces in the win.
Marshall improves to 17-3 on the year and takes on another strong foe on Monday, going on the road for a matchup with No. 3 Willmar (12-3) at 7 p.m.
No. 1 Minneota 3, MACCRAY 0
CLARA CITY -- The top-ranked Minneota volleyball team picked up its 11th consecutive win on Thursday, sweeping MACCRAY in Camden Conference play 25-13, 25-22, 25-8 behind strong nights from Jaylyn Coequyt and Autum Anderson.
Jaylyn Coequyt led the front row with 15 kills, while Anderson led the back row with 19 digs. The Vikings also got 11 kills from Leah Coequyt and seven apiece from Brek Fier and Eden Meagher, and Meagher contributed 11 digs in the back row.
Sophie Gillund and Libby Sussner tallied 24 and 19 set assists, respectively, and Fier notched a pair of service aces.
Minneota improves to 17-2 with the win, having not lost a game since Sept. 12, and looks to keep its momentum rolling when it hits the road to take on Renville County West (15-2) on Tuesday at 7:15 p.m.
Lakeview 3, LQPV 0
MADISON -- Taylor Hinz's 11 kills and five digs set the tone for the Lakeview volleyball team on Thursday night as the Lakers swept Lac qui Parle Valley 25-16, 25-22, 25-18 in Camden Conference play.
Taylor Hinz led the Lakers in both kills and digs, followed by another seven kills apiece from Avery Hinz and Josie Spaude. Nicole Schwartz and Khya Gawarecki set up the trio of hitters with 14 and 13 set assists, respectively, as well as three service aces each.
Laia Javens and Allison Isaacs each put up a pair of ace blocks.
Lakeview improves to 8-5 and aims to pick up its fifth consecutive win when it goes on the road to take on Canby (3-15) on Tuesday at 7:15 p.m.
WWG 3, MLAC 0
WESTBROOK -- Leah VanDeWiele, Myah Wahl and Hadley Jenniges led a well-rounded defensive effort for the Westbrook-Walnut Grove volleyball team on Thursday as the Chargers picked up a Red Rock Conference sweep of Mountain Lake Area-Comfrey, 25-8, 25-14, 25-6.
The Chargers' trio finished with 14, 12 and 11 digs, respectively, in the match. Jenniges' 27 set assists, two ace blocks and two block assists were each also team-highs.
Sydney Foster and Kendall Jenniges got the job done in the front row with 13 and 10 kills.
Myah Wahl went a perfect 25 of 25 from the service line.
WWG improves to 11-7 with the win and heads to Lamberton on Tuesday to take on Red Rock Central (5-8) at 7:15 p.m.
Wabasso 3, Sleepy Eye 0
SLEEPY EYE -- Kenley Guetter swung for 15 kills for the Wabasso volleyball team on Thursday, leading the Rabbits past Sleepy Eye for a 25-15, 29-27, 25-14 win in Tomahawk Conference play to get back to .500.
In addition to her production at the net, Guetter's four service aces were second only to Alexa Remiger's six, and her eight digs trailed only Britta Brand's 14. Remiger also got seven digs.
Lanna Janeiro-Dolan dished out 22 set assists and Cassie Bliss contributed another 13.
Cendyll Daub put up a pair of ace blocks in the win.
Now at 8-8 on the season, the Rabbits look to get above .500 for the first time since Aug. 27 when they head to the Jimmy John's Tournament in Marshall over the weekend. The Rabbits will take on No. 7 Central Minnesota Christian (14-4) and Luverne (7-11) on Friday, with Saturday's matches yet to be determined.
YME 3, Dawson-Boyd 1
DAWSON -- The Yellow Medicine East volleyball team continued to surge on Thursday, downing Dawson-Boyd 25-13, 25-16, 22-25, 25-21 for its third win in its last four matches.
Kourtney Peterson had a big game in the back row, tallying 19 digs with Charlotte Paslawski adding another seven.
Bones contributed in several facets of the game for the Sting. She logged team-highs with nine kills, four blocks and seven service aces. Paslawski also served up four aces and dished out 24 set assists.
Hanna Bones tallied another three blocks, and Everra Leenerts finished with six kills.
YME improves to 4-10 and travels to Tracy to take on Tracy-Milroy-Balaton (10-9) on Tuesday at 7:15 p.m.
Dawson-Boyd (4-9) looks to avoid its eighth consecutive loss when it heads to Prinsburg for a tilt against No. 7 Central Minnesota Christian (14-4) on Tuesday at 7:15 p.m.
KMS 3, Canby 2
KERKHOVEN -- A strong first three sets wasn't enough to get the Canby volleyball team into the win column against Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg on Thursday. The Lancers took two of the first three sets, 25-23 and 25-22 with a 27-25 loss in between. Yet, the Fighting Saints fought back with a 25-22 win in set 4 and a 15-8 win in the tiebreaker to down the Lancers in Camden Conference play.
Karli Weber and Rachel Jelen put together strong attacking games despite the loss, tallying 15 and 10 kills. Weber's four ace blocks were a team-high, and her trio of service aces also tied Alexa Vernlund for third on the team behind Kinsley Verhelst's five and Shyanna Stoll's seven.
Stoll and Namken headed the back row with eight digs each, and Stoll also tallied 40 set assists in the match.
Jada VanEngen finished with three ace blocks.
Canby falls to 3-15 and next hosts Lakeview (8-5) on Tuesday at 7:15 p.m.
HLOF 3, RRC 2
LAMBERTON -- The Red Rock Central volleyball team's back-row magic wasn't quite able to translate to a victory on Thursday. Hosting Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda in Red Rock Conference play, the Falcons won the first set 25-22 before dropping the ensuing pair of sets 28-26 and 25-6. RRC bounced back from the third-set lull with a 25-19 win to force a tiebreaker, but ultimately lost the fifth set 16-14.
Amelia Ubl, Natasha Erickson and Kendra Schroeder ended the night with 34, 26 and 21 digs, respectively. Erickson's pair of ace blocks, 24 set assists and nine kills were each also at least tied for a team-high.
Lilly Batalden added another nine kills while Ubl logged a pair of service aces.
RRC falls to 5-8 on the season and remains on its home court to host Springfield (5-4) on Friday at 12:30 p.m.
