MARSHALL -- On Senior Night, the Marshall volleyball team wasted little time earning another victory, sweeping its opponent in straight sets.
The Tigers cruised to a 25-3, 25-10, 25-14 win, bouncing back after a disappointing finish to the Lakeville tournament.
Madi Mernaugh led Marshall from the service line, going a perfect 21-for-21 with three aces. Senior Anna Thor finished 15-for-16 with four aces, while fellow senior Kezlyn Pinckney went 17-for-17 with two aces.
Nora Holmgren led the Tigers with 12 kills, while Bentley Krull added 10. Leah Stelter paced the offense with 38 set assists, and Holmgren and Chika Nwakama each recorded a block.
Marshall head coach Dan Westby was pleased with how his team responded following the tournament.
"This was a great bounce-back win for us," Westby said. "We felt like we let one get away at the end of the Lakeville tournament, so it was good to see our kids come out and put things back together."
The match also gave the Tigers an opportunity to recognize their eight seniors, a group Westby said has been committed to the program and its goals.
"There are eight seniors this year, and they have all been extremely committed to what we have been trying to do. This was their night, so we wanted to make it a priority to get those kids on the court as much as we could," Westby said.
Westby also praised Thor for her consistency behind the service line and the role she has taken on over the past month.
"Anna has assumed a great role over the last month and has been very consistent serving for us, and she put together a couple of great runs back there tonight," Westby said.
Pinckney also earned praise from her coach for her all-around contributions and reliability.
"Kez also put together a great game for us. She does so much for us, and I do not even want to think about the fact we have to replace her next season. We rely on her for so much, and she is always up to the task," Westby said.
