COTTONWOOD – Lakeview cruised to a 3-0 volleyball victory over Yellow Medicine East on Thursday night, winning all three sets to secure the sweep.
The Lakers opened with a 25-15 victory in the first set and followed with another 25-15 win in the second. Lakeview then closed out the match with a dominant 25-10 performance in the third set.
Taylor Hinz led Lakeview offensively with 10 kills, while Kiera Clemons added six. Avery Hinz and Josie Spaude contributed five kills apiece, and Laia Javens and Khya Gawarecki each finished with four.
Nicole Schwartz and Gawarecki paced the Lakers’ offense with 13 set assists apiece.
Defensively, Jersey Stensrud led Lakeview with eight digs. Adison Hinz and Aubrey Pederson each recorded seven digs, while Allison Isaacs finished with three blocks and Spaude added two.
Lakeview also received contributions from the service line, as Stensrud, Pederson and Gawarecki each recorded two aces.
For Yellow Medicine East, Bailey Mortenson and Justice Sims led the team with three kills apiece. Everra Leenerts, Hanna Bjorndal and Lucy Schmidt also contributed kills, while Kresley Enninga, Leenerts and Bjorndal each recorded an ace.
Mortenson and Bjorndal led the Sting with two blocks apiece. Kourtney Peterson paced Yellow Medicine East defensively with six digs, followed by Charlotte with five. Enninga and Chasity each added four digs.
Both teams return to action Friday and Saturday at the Jimmy John’s Classic tournament in Marshall.
