CLARA CITY -- Jackson Kruse's big day under center helped the Tracy-Milroy-Balaton football team get off to a roaring start against MACCRAY on Thursday night. The Panthers jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, claiming a 38-16 win over the Wolverines.
Kruse had two passing touchdowns and a kick return touchdown in the first half, including a 44-yard touchdown to Braden Morgan to take a 24-16 lead into halftime. He finished the day completing 14 of his 21 passes for 255 yards, three touchdowns and an interception, and he ran the ball 16 times for 104 yards and a touchdown.
Emery Xiong was Kruse's top target in the passing game, hauling in seven receptions for 164 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
Nolan Verlinde and Ty Yackley were among the Panthers' defensive leaders with six solo tackles each. Morgan also intercepted a pass.
Tracy-Milroy-Balaton (1-0) next hosts United South Central (0-1) for its home opener on Friday at 7 p.m.
