MARSHALL -- Following a 49-14 win over Westonka to open the season, Marshall football was back in action Friday night for its second game of the year, hosting Rocori.
The Tigers put together an even more dominant performance in Week 2, rolling to a 49-0 shutout victory over the Spartans.
"I thought we played well just about everywhere," Tigers head coach Terry Bahlmann said. "Shutting out a good team like Rocori is huge for our defense."
Marshall's defense set the tone throughout the night, forcing multiple interceptions while also getting its hands on several other passes. Those defensive stops frequently gave the Tigers excellent field position, which the offense turned into points.
"We decided to defer to start the game, which we don’t usually do," Bahlmann said. "Once we were able to set the tone with defense, we led 21-0 quick thanks to short fields."
The Tigers continued to capitalize on those opportunities as the game progressed, pulling further away while keeping Rocori off the scoreboard.
Ethan Weedman and Sam Meier both had big nights on the ground for Marshall, with each breaking off long runs and finding the end zone multiple times.
After opening the season with two straight home games, Marshall will hit the road for the first time next week when it travels to Willmar.
Bahlmann expects the road matchup to provide another strong test, with Willmar returning a multitude of players from last season.
The Tigers will look to carry the momentum from their dominant 2-0 start into their first road game of the season.
