MARSHALL -- Entering Thursday's home matchup against Belle Plaine, Marshall volleyball had dropped just one set through its first four matches of the season and was riding a streak of three consecutive sweeps.
That streak reached four after the Tigers dominated Belle Plaine, overcoming a slow start to earn a 25-15, 25-16, 25-14 victory.
"We haven’t played at home in a while, so it was nice to be back here," Tigers head coach Dan Westby said.
Marshall found its rhythm as the opening set progressed, using a 7-0 scoring run to separate itself from Belle Plaine in what had been a close set early.
"We had a nice serving run," Westby said. "Julia Fahl had a couple long service runs tonight, and she has a tough serve when she gets it going, and it is tough for the other team to get much going."
Belle Plaine came out strong in the second set, jumping out to a 7-1 lead. The Tigers, however, quickly chipped away at the deficit before taking control and pulling away for another comfortable set victory.
Fahl was a force from the service line for Marshall, going a perfect 19-for-19 with two aces. The Tigers finished with five aces as a team and added five blocks.
With four straight sweeps now under their belts, the Tigers will face a busy weekend as they host the Southwest Minnesota Challenge on Friday and Saturday. The event will bring several of the top teams from across multiple states to Marshall for a challenging slate of matches.
