SPRINGFIELD -- After showcasing plenty of offensive fireworks in the first two games of the season, the Tracy-Milroy-Balaton football team's offense was shut down by perennial Section 3A juggernaut Springfield on Friday. The Panthers fell into a 28-0 hole after the first quarter and never recovered, taking their first loss of the season 67-6.
Jackson Kruse was TMB's leading rusher on the day with 18 carries for 101 yards and the team's lone touchdown, and his eight tackles and three tackles for loss were both team highs on the defensive side of the ball. He was limited to four completions on 13 pass attempts for 14 yards.
Noah Johnson also made a defensive impact with six tackles and a tackle for loss, while Jack Willhite recovered a fumble.
Johnson was the Panthers' second-leading rusher with eight carries for 29 yards.
TMB trailed 54-0 at halftime before getting on the board in the third quarter.
The Panthers fall to 2-1 with the loss and look to return to their usual high-flying offense when they go on the road to take on Sleepy Eye United (3-1) on Friday at 7 p.m. Both TMB and Sleepy Eye received votes in the latest media poll.
