TRACY -- In front of a great home crowd, TMB volleyball put together a strong performance Thursday night, sweeping Dawson-Boyd to improve its record to 3-4.
The Panthers controlled the match from the start, opening with a 25-11 victory in the first set. Dawson-Boyd responded with a stronger showing in the second, but TMB still came away with a 25-20 win before closing out the match with another dominant 25-11 victory in the third set.
TMB outside hitter Allie Adams led the Panthers offensively, recording 13 of the team's 30 kills.
"I really liked Allie’s hitting efficiency tonight," Panthers head coach Heather Kamrud-Rice said. "She was super aggressive, and that pumps our whole team up, makes things a bit easier opening things up."
Adams also contributed one of TMB's two aces on the night.
For Kamrud-Rice, maintaining the team's energy and composure was another important part of the victory.
"I'm really glad we were able to hold the energy tonight," she said. "This group is very loose, and they are better players when they play loose and don’t put so much pressure on themselves."
That positive mindset was something Kamrud-Rice noticed before the match even got underway.
"When I saw them with big smiles today, I knew they were going to be playing with each other, and be able to persevere," she added.
Although the match ended in a sweep, Dawson-Boyd provided a challenge throughout, particularly with its offensive attack and blocking presence.
"They always have a couple of big swingers and a big block," Kamrud-Rice said. "I knew we needed to lift each other up when Dawson-Boyd was coming at us."
The Panthers will look to carry that energy into their next matchup when they travel to Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg on Sept. 17.
