DAWSON -- A third-quarter touchdown wasn't enough to spark the No. 5 Dawson-Boyd football team to victory against No. 2 Springfield on Friday night. The Blackjacks scored the game's first and last points, but ultimately fell 21-10 to the Tigers.
Elvis Bellefeuille nailed a 34-yard first-quarter field goal for the Blackjacks, but it was all Springfield from there as the Tigers scored 21 unanswered points to take a commanding lead.
Mason Bothun came up with an 18-yard pick-6 in the third quarter to cut into the gap, but Springfield locked the game down defensively from there.
Carver Schwegel and Jaxton Hastad led the Blackjacks defensively with 10 total tackles each in the game, while Colten Bothun accounted for the team's lone sack.
Aedyn Dahl was at the forefront of Dawson-Boyd's success on the ground, taking 16 carries for 83 yards while Colten Bothun added another 70 yards on 12 carries. Carson Stratmoen completed six of his 12 pass attempts for 40 yards and an interception.
Dawson-Boyd now sits at 3-1 on the season and looks to rebound from its first loss of the season when it hits the road for a game against Canby (1-3) on Friday at 7 p.m.
