Marshall girls take runner-up, boys place 14th at Roy Griak

ST. PAUL -- Claire Kruse, Jasmine Murphy and Katelyn Leibfried all finished in the top 20 of Saturday's Roy Griak Girls Cross Country Invitational, leading the Marshall Tigers to a podium finish.

The Tigers finished with a team score of 116, falling to runner-up Hillsboro/Central Valley via tiebreaker. Marshall seventh grader Callie Kletcher placed 58th at 20:54.7, while HCV's Emma Nagel placed 51st at 20:36.4. Duluth East won the 23-team meet with 111 points.

Kruse was the Tigers' top performer in the 195-runner field, placing seventh at 18:51.7. Murphy and Leibfried also finished near the top of the leaderboard, Murphy placing 11th at 19:03.3 and Leibfried at 19:15.0.

Landrey Graven and Kaitlyn Soupir were Marshall's No. 4 and 5 scorers. Graven placed 39th at 20:18.2 and Soupir took 45th at 20:27.1.

HVC's Claire Grinde was the individual champion at 17:23.2, beating out runner-up Bridget Tyler of Rosemount by over a minute at 18:29.5.

Marshall next races at the Redwood Valley Invitational at Redwood Falls Golf Club. The meet is slated for Oct. 1 at 4:30 p.m.
