LAMBERTON -- The Red Rock Central volleyball team will enter the 2026 season with a new leader at the helm and a new vision as the Falcons look to make their mark in the competitive Red Rock Conference.
Paige Lingle will take over as head coach in her first season leading the Falcons. After Red Rock Central finished 5-17 last season, Lingle is focused on building a strong team culture while helping the players develop throughout the season.
One of the biggest keys for Lingle will be keeping the team composed when adversity strikes.
With a conference filled with talented teams, the Falcons will need to be able to respond to momentum swings and challenging moments throughout matches. Lingle believes staying calm and focusing on the things within the team’s control will be important.
Lingle also has a clear vision for how she wants the Falcons to play. Rather than relying on one aspect of the game, she wants Red Rock Central to build its identity around energy, defense, ball control and trust.
"My play style heading into the season is a strong team mindset with high energy and sharp fundamentals," Lingle said. "The primary focus is relentless defense, smart ball control, and trusting teammates in every rotation."
That approach will be especially important in the Red Rock Conference, where the Falcons will face a number of strong opponents throughout the season.
Despite taking over a team that struggled to find consistency last year, Lingle said she is excited about the opportunity to watch the players grow and develop both individually and as a team.
"I am most excited about the teamwork we will be building and seeing the growth in each athlete, as well as the energy the team brings," she said.
One advantage Lingle sees in this year’s group is its athleticism. While the Falcons may not have the height of some of their opponents, Lingle believes they can use their athleticism and speed to create problems for opposing teams.
"We do have an athletic group," Lingle said. "We may not be the tallest, but my plan is to attempt to run a fast offense with focusing on putting up a block, chasing down loose balls and press the other team with heavy serves."
The Falcons will look to turn that style into success as they begin the season. With a new coach, an athletic roster and an emphasis on energy and fundamentals, Red Rock Central hopes to take a step forward and compete in a difficult conference.
For Lingle, the goal will be to build on each match, stay composed through adversity and allow the team to grow together as the season progresses.
