Schmitt, Deutz lead Yankees in shutout over Jaxx

Prep amateur roundup, June 21, 2026

MILROY — Isaac Schmitt and Nathan Deutz partnered on the mound to help lead the Milroy Yankees to a 4-0 win against the Wabasso Jaxx on Sunday in a Corn Belt League matchup. The two combined for eight strikeouts, allowing just four hits on the night.

After scoring its first run in the second inning, Milroy was able to score three more in the third and hang on to the lead for the remainder of the game while continuing to limit Wabasso from coming back.

Joey Liebl and David Schmidt both scored on Brock Schultz’s RBI triple in the third inning on a line drive to center field. Liebl was walked to reach base, while Schmidt also hit a line drive to center for a double.

Schultz then scored with the help of Alex Schuh’s RBI single to give the Yankees the 4-0 lead, and ultimately the final score. All three of Milroy’s runs in the third inning came on two outs as well.

Schultz also scored Milroy’s first run of the night in the second inning on a Jayden Remiger single as well.

CJ Theis pitched a majority of the night for the Jaxx, and finished with three strikeouts while allowing six hits and a trio of walks.

Milroy (9-5) will remain at home to host Hadley today at 7:30 p.m. Wabasso will remain on the road to take on Granite Falls today at 7:30 p.m. as well.

Jackson 6, Milroy Irish 4

MILROY — Despite a high-hitting performance and tied game up until late, the Milroy Irish came up just short in a 6-4 loss to the Jackson Bulls on Sunday in a non-league matchup.

After Jackson struck first with a pair of runs in the first inning, Milroy was eventually able to tie the score up with a run in each the fourth and sixth innings while holding the Bulls scoreless for six consecutive frames.

Jackson was able to put some momentum together for a four-run eighth inning, which ended up being just enough to hang in for the win after the Irish scored twice more in the bottom of the frame but couldn’t fully comeback.

Milroy outhit the Bulls 12-10, and also played a clean slate with no errors to Jackson’s two errors.

Carson Javers led Milroy offensively going 2 for 4 at the plate with a team-high two runs, while Trevor Smith pitched through the first seven innings and retired five batters.

Javers scored Milroy’s first run in the bottom of the fourth on a Moses Dolan RBI single, and Javers accounted for the game-tying run in the sixth, which also came from a Mason Dolan sacrifice fly to center field.

Although unable to tie the score up once again, Griffin Zick and Mason Dolan scored on a Dominic Dolan two-run RBI single on a line drive to left field in the bottom of the eighth that brought Milroy into the 6-4 deficit.

The Irish (7-6) will look to get back on track when they next host the Marshall A’s (5-6) today at 7:30 p.m. at the Irish Yard.
