SLEEPY EYE — Mauer Leysen was firing on all cylinders and impressively pitched a no-hitter complete game with 15 strikeouts to power the Marshall VFW Orange baseball team to a 7-1 win on the road against Sleepy Eye Tuesday night.

Sleepy Eye’s lone run of the night came in the fourth inning on a ground-out play with a runner on third.

Leysen also had the biggest hit of the night for Marshall with a double, in addition to scoring a run and an RBI.

While not allowing Sleepy Eye to get a single hit off, Leysen also walked just two batters to pair with his 15 strikeouts.

Marshall was quick to take a large lead with a six-run second inning, with its last run coming in the fifth.

Leysen got the rally going for Marshall in the second inning with an RBI double to drive in Kaden Boeck for the first run. Boeck initially walked to reach base.

Both Leysen and Kyper Brownlee followed behind, scoring on a Bennett Kimman two-run RBI single on a ground ball to right field. Brownlee laid down a bunt to advance Leysen to third while getting to first himself.

Matthew Ryks then accounted for the next run, also reaching base on a bunt, on a Max Weedman RBI single, while Mason Moua came in immediately after on a Nolan Deutz RBI single.

Weedman then got into scoring position at third following a walk and Deutz’s hit, and was given home after Sleepy Eye’s pitcher was called for a balk.

Marshall finished with nine hits and no errors. Sleepy Eye committed two errors.

Marshall VFW moves to 13-2 on the season, and hosts a doubleheader today at Legion Field against Fargo Post 400. The first game is slated for 1 p.m., with the second to follow.
