Winn leads Tigers after first day at Dacotah Ridge Invite

MORTON — Elijah Winn wrapped up the first day of the Dacotah Ridge in the top 10 of the 110-player leaderboard. With another day to play, Marshall currently sits in 13th place out of 18 teams in the tournament.

The Tigers fielded a team score of 316 on the first day of competition. Of the 12 teams ahead of Class 2A Marshall, 11 are Class 3A squads.

Winn posted a 1-over 73 on the day. He was 3-under through his first nine holes and finished the day with five birdies.

Deacon Wing also finished the first round in the top half of the field with a 6-over 78. He was 4-over through his first five holes, but he got off to a strong start on the back nine with five consecutive holes of par or better.

Edina’s Sander Ohe leads the field after the first day with a 67, followed by Brainerd’s Brady Oseland and Ayden Dobis with a 68 and 71, respectively. Brainerd leads the team scores with a 286, followed by Edina’s 289 and Sartell’s 298.

Ethan Wendorff and Keegan Fossum rounded out Marshall’s scorers in 65th and 72nd, respectively. Wendorff shot a 10-over 82 with a pair of birdies, and Fossum shot an 11-over 83 after birdying each of his first two holes and another two on the back nine.

Also competing, Jaylen Koster sits in 80th with an 84 and Carter Manthei in 100th at 89.

The second day of competition at Dacotah Ridge Golf Club is slated to begin at 8:30 a.m. Saturday.

TMB BOYS TRI

TRACY — Charles Xiong and Trenton Johnson led the Tracy-Milroy-Balaton boys golf team to a win in its home triangular on Friday, placing second and third, respectively.

Xiong shot a 10-over 46 in the meet with a pair of pars to finish as the runner-up, while Johnson shot a 12-over 48 with three pars to place third.

TMB finished with a team score of 215, beating runner-up Red Rock Central by 20 strokes. Wabasso placed third with a 241.

RRC’s Finn Batalden was the top individual in the 14-player field, shooting a 7-over 43 with three pars.

Eighth grader Gavin Fischer and sophomore Tyson Petersen rounded out the Panther scorers in eighth and 10th, respectively. Fischer shot a 57 while Petersen shot a 64.

Wabasso was led by Brayden Guetter, who shot a 49 to place fourth.

RRC’s Brekken Determan and Jackson Radmaker also placed fifth and seventh at 55 and 60, respectively.

TMB’s boys return to action in a Camden South meet at Canby on Monday at 4:30 p.m.. Red Rock Central next competes in a Red Rock Conference meet in Tracy on Tuesday at 2 p.m., and Wabasso gets back to the Links in a Tomahawk Valley meet at New Ulm Country Club on Monday at 10 a.m.

TMB GIRLS TRI

TRACY — Jorga Brown’s 8-over 44 led the Red Rock Central girls golf team to a win at the Tracy-Milroy-Balaton triangular on Friday, beating out Wabasso by nine strokes. TMB did not field a team score.

Brown’s round was highlighted by a pair of birdies on holes 4 and 6. Freshman Josie Timm and Abby Evans also placed third and fifth with a 53 and 63, respectively, while Paige Wondercheck rounded out the Falcon scorers in 11th with a 75.

Carlee Jenniges was the Rabbits’ top performer, finishing as the individual runner-up with a 51 with a par on hole 8.

Madelyn Fogelson and Josie Wiese tied for sixth place for the Rabbits at 28-over 64, and Alexis Jensen placed eighth one stroke behind them.

Taylor Munson placed fourth for the Panthers with a 57.

Red Rock Central next competes at a Red Rock Conference meet in Tyler on Tuesday at 2 p.m. Wabasso and TMB both get back in action on Monday, with the Rabbits competing at Oakdale Golf Club at 10 a.m. and the Panthers in Canby at 4:30 p.m.

EAGLE CREEK QUAD

WILLMAR — Evan Mork and Owen Schindler took two of the top three spots at a 5A boys golf quadgular at Eagle Creek Golf Club on Friday, helping the Blackjacks to a runner-up finish.

Mork shot a 6-over 78 on the day, aided by 13 pars, to trail only Community Christian’s Gus Klaassen’s 77.

Schindler, an eighth grader, tied Lac qui Parle Valley’s Noah Arndt and Kaidyn Stender with an 81. Schindler birdied his first hole of the round and finished with nine pars.

Mason Solem also placed ninth for the Raptors with 90 strokes while Evan Menning placed 18th with 99.

The Dawson-Boyd boys next compete on Tuesday, when they host a Camden North meet at Dawson Golf Course at 4:30 p.m.
