Wendorff finishes under par to lead Tigers

LUVERNE — Ethan Wendorff finished two strokes under par to finish first overall while leading the Marshall boys golf team against Luverne on Monday in Buffalo.
Wendorff had a spectacular performance on the green in the 18-hole meet, carding five birdies and one eagle. He finished with a 2-under 70, four strokes ahead of Luverne’s Graham Hartquist’s 2-over 74 to place second.
The Tigers had a strong performance all around, with Deacon Wing and Elijah Winn finishing in third and fourth place, respectively.
Wing shot a 3-over 75 with a trio of birdies, while Winn had four birdies on the day in his 5-over 77 outing.
Jaylen Koster shot a 9-over 81 with a birdie to finish in sixth place, while Keegan Fossum followed one stroke behind with a 10-over 82 and a birdie for seventh. Carter Manthei rounded out Marshall with an 11-over 83 and eighth-place finish out of the 12 individual golfers.
Both the Marshall girls and boys team will next compete in the Section 3AA Tournament on Wednesday back at the Oakdale Golf Club in Buffalo, looking to earn spots in the upcoming state tournament. Both teams will tee-off at 9 a.m.
